A/B Testing for an Effective Website

One way to regularly make sure that your website is operating optimally is through A/B testing.  However, to continually improve your website and better serve your customers you can never go wrong with A/B testing, a form of research that allows you to test different copy and design elements on your website and determine which are most effective.

What is A/B Testing?

A/B testing involves deploying multiple versions of a website or e-mail and measuring how each performs in order to determine which design or copy elements are most successful. It is important in A/B testing that variables are isolated, so that you can identify exactly which factors are making the test more or less successful.  The tests are generally preformed on a live website rather than in a controlled environment and usually without the user’s knowledge. Does this situation sound familiar? You’re a marketer, you believe in the power of social media, you’re convinced that it’s a must for you organization, but when management asks, “What’s the ROI?” you find it difficult to provide a concrete answer.  For years, experts have debated the ROI of social media and despite all of the measurement techniques and tools available online, it’s still difficult to measure accurately. 5 Ways to Beat the Digital Summer Slowdown

Websites are like offices in the summertime. They slow down. Between the vacations of co-workers, customers, clients, vendors, Congress, and constituents, making things happen can become difficult. The same is true for your website. Most websites experience significant reductions in traffic between May and August, with the exceptions of certain industries of course, such as travel and tourism. BI’s Must-Read Online Resources

For virtually every industry there’s a wide library of resources available online to help people stay connected and up-to-date on current news and hot topics. This is especially true in the interactive industry. So I asked them and put together a list of useful online resources related to design, development and interactive marketing.

Below is a round-up of the Boston Interactive team’s favorite websites, blogs, and aggregators.  They are full of tech news, design and development tips, color ideas, social media and blogs.  If you recommend any others let us know in the comments. Enjoy! Read On

You Get What You Ask For

Why Presenting Your Call to Action is Like Asking for an Airline Upgrade

You’ve been in this situation before. Your flight is delayed and you’re now scheduled to arrive at your layover destination 4 minutes before your next plane is supposed to take off. To make matters worse you’re seated toward the back of a large plane and it’s going to take you an extra 20 minutes to get off the aircraft.

This happened to me a few weeks ago and while it wasn’t the first time I’d been in this situation, it was the first time that I asked a special favor of the airline- to move me to a seat closer to the front of the plane so that I could get off more quickly. After a patient 45 minutes in line, I made this request to the woman working at the gate and she exclaimed, “that’s the easiest thing I’ve been asked all day, I’ll put you in first class!” Lately, I’ve been finding that often times, it’s amazing what you get when you just ask. Now, I know what you’re thinking- how does this relate to my website? Read On
